"Granddad's Pocket"
A magic stone

In Granddad's pocket he kept a stone, its surface smooth and cool to the touch. He let me hold it ever so often, his cherished possession, he valued so much.
I often questioned the secret of this stone. You see, I had changed, right up till I was grown, and so had the surface of this stone. As a child, I believed it had a life of its own.
Granddad called it his worry stone, he said when times were tough and he felt all alone he found comfort in the smooth black stone.
With childlike curiosity, I asked him just how this could be. Pulling it from his pocket he answered me, "You see how smooth and shiny it is?" "Over the years it's soothed many tears, relieved much stress, and helped me to worry less".
"I tell you child, if this stone could talk, oh the stories it would tell". "Yes, oh yes, this stone has served me well".
"Is it Magic Granddad?" I wanted to know. "You might say that, it could be so, you see I just give it a rub with this here thumb, and all my worries seem small". "Really Granddad just a rub?" My wonder I recall.
It must have been magic, after all!

We find comfort in the strangest things. It is our belief in a thing that makes it real I guess. This was beautiful.
