Grand Canyon
My whole world is trapped, embraced in your eyes.
I may never see the Grand Canyon,
or Everest towering high,
the Great Wall or Pyramids greater,
or Northern Lights filling the skies.
.
And I was content to live av'rage,
look down at my feet all my life,
for while upward gaze may be wondrous,
the ground has a decent design.
.
My ev’ryday blurred and dulled senses
could keep faded heartbeat intact,
and Bursts of aurorian color
roared whispers they’d have no impact.
.
The tallest of mountains,
the lowest of valleys,
could never catch me by surprise -
until I glanced upward
and saw the world's wonders
all held within one single sight.
.
.
Time herself stops marching forward.
Sun in her majesty cools;
how could her radiance match
the embers in each molecule?
.
Oceans force waves to grow stagnant.
Air halts within my own lungs.
All around, atmosphere pausing
to admire what has us all stunned.
.
No music commanded a waltz.
No blinding light shone from on high.
No chorus, or harps, or gust of wind.
No cracking open of the sky.
Just this lone, content to live av'rage,
small bit of galaxy in me,
here, standing as still as atmosphere
recognizing galaxy.
.
.
And now I have seen the Grand Canyon,
and mountains, walls, pyr’mids, and lights,
for I saw all cosmos at once.
The universe is kept in your eyes.
