Gossamer Wings

at the end

By Carmen HeniginPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

if life is as gossamer wings,

how carefully I guard this tiny, delicate thing.

frightened by my own fragility; avoiding strong winds and bitter storms lest the delicate threads and sheer lace tatter and shred.

if life is as gossamer wings,

should it not be protected and held apart? the wings kept beautiful. and perfect?

let it not be so, for that is surely a life unlived. never braving the storm, nor soaring into the gale. neither giving of mercy, nor receiving of grace. not daring to love for fear of loss. a safe life, pinned behind cold glass.

if life is as gossamer wings,

then, at the end, let mine be torn and frayed.

proof of a life lived

and loved.
