Goodbyes

Ode to breaking up

I just wanted to see your spirit soar.

I wanted you to fly

And you flew away an angry bird

Though I loved you. I tried.

I felt you had abandoned me

I thought you could not see

The me I thought you needed

Not the me you thought me to be.

I think you thought me stronger

Or maybe weak to be dismissed

And yet I loved. And loved you strong

But there’s something that you missed.

You failed to see my loyalty

You failed to see my love

Pouring over you like water

From the universe above

And so you only had your anger

Your pain as company

And you forgot that I was there

Still with faith in you and me.

I had to stand against you

In this I had no choice

And I was screaming “I still love you”

But you’d switched off to my voice.

And now we stand here separate

In this devastating place

Trying to find a way

To heal the hurt and find some peace.

I’ll never get over

The love I have for you.

This sadness I will carry

Till I’m dead and cold and blue.

And yet life must go on.

We must still make our tracks.

And we must learn to grow apart

Alone to bare the burden of our packs

Nothing is forever

And endings are beginnings

And though I feel I’m losing

I hope that one day we’ll be winning.

My wish for you is this...

That you heal and learn and grow.

That you forgive and find a peace within

And seeds of love you’ll sow.

Don’t forget me beautiful heart

I’ll never forget you

Please recall me as a love so big

That wrapped you up in truth.

Goodbye and farewell

With a heavy heart I go

To see what new adventures await

And to the world, my love, I’ll show.
