God Only Knows

Is it lightning in a bottle,

A rainbow in a jar,

The promise of a life,

As Venus and Mars?

Going out for rides

Like two shooting stars.

Is it a warm embrace with soft skin,

When I lie awake in the early dawn?

The beating of a heart from deep within,

A voluptuous body where a new life is born?

Coming home from work

With arms open wide,

A serendipitous kiss with a telling smile,

And a loving whisper " Let's go for a ride?"

Up into the hills,

Sat on a rock,

Watching the sun slowly go down,

As the stars run amok

Whilst we are out on the town.

Holding hands

To the sounds of the night,

That understands

Watching the owls,

Flap wings and take flight.

And the tipped cup of the moon

Spills pink champagne on ice.

On the slow drive home

Listening to the Beach Boys,

Singing ' God Only Knows'

And 'Wouldn't It Be Nice.'
