They want a genie in a lamp,
A God they can rub to life with need,
Bound by the brass of their religion,
Confined to the walls of their creed.
They shut Him tight until their hunger calls,
Impatience burning when no answer falls.
_____
They pass Him down,
A savior for hire,
“He heals the worthy, ignores the rest,” they say.
That’s what they told me—
Thank God they told me that way.
_____
Because I thought I wasn’t worthy to hold that lamp,
Like Aladdin afraid to make a wish.
I never called Him when I was drowning,
Never reached for Him in my abyss—
They told me my faith was too small,
My life too cracked to house His all.
______
But I met Him anyway.
Not in the blaze of miracles they swore,
But in the shadows of sleepless nights,
When the storms in my head would roar.
He sat beside me in the quiet,
A steady whisper when the world fell away,
When i could take no more.
______
I found Him when I was pushed out,
A little girl sitting alone in the cold of night,
Wondering why my presence brought so much strife.
He was there,
Not with answers, but with warmth.
A glow that softened the sharpness of life.
_____
I found Him in the mirror of my insecurities,
In the bare, broken truths I shared with trembling hands.
He didn’t fix me with a wish,
But held me in every moment I felt unworthy.
He stayed in the moments of my despair.
No genie’s lamp, no magic flame,
Yet he still came, he came.
______
He is not a genie in a lamp for me,
Not a being caged for my demands.
He doesn’t wait for my commands;
He is loose, wild and everywhere.
He hovers in my weakness,
He breathes in my silence,
He brightens my darkness.
______
So, no,
I can’t summon Him for your dreams,
Can’t grant your wishes with this God you think i hold.
Because He isn’t trapped in a lamp for me.
He is the God who breaks the mold.
_____
When you find Him,
When you truly see Him,
He stays—always.
Not bound by fleeting loyalty.
Unless, of course,
You want a God of fleeting favours,
A genie’s fleeting fantasy.
_____
For that God lasts only a while,
Until your worthiness wears thin,
Until His diligence is deemed done.
But the God I found,
The one who met me in my unmaking….
He lingers,
Not for my perfection,
But for my presence.
_____
All I ask is that you’ll find Him,
Find Him as He is—
Not as the genie of your dreams,
But as the Presence who meets you in the depths.
He is there waiting even now.
_______
And when you do find Him,
The possibilities are endless, vast.
But first, come to know Him—
Not just seeking what won’t last.
____
Don’t come with hands outstretched for gain,
Or wishes bound in fleeting flame.
Come with a heart that longs to see
The God who stays, who sets you free.
About the Creator
Marvelous Michael
I’m so glad you are here!
