The phone is glued to my hand
By the activation of dopamine in my brain
Its screen sign bright in my face
The sunshine I see throughout the day
Wish it came with vitamin D
With all its apps and online media
It's all I need to find my community
To fellowship
To text as much as I please
Love the games I get to play
Even made live-streaming easy
But don't call me, talking ain't my thing
Please don't face time me, there’s nothing to see
But I do enjoy listening to him talk at night
Feel bad when I can’t think to say anything back
Be dry on the phone calls
But my phone is still my home
A distraction at time
But it keeps my mind calm
Give me a chance to have a little fun
Sometimes it puts me in that obsessed mode
Hours and hours scrolling on my phone
They even put streaming apps on it
YouTube, Netflix, and even Xfinity
Of course, I will be on it all night long
Use it for everything, except the original thing it was made for
To call, its not what I use it for
Dang life would be so different without smartphones
Put the phone down!
How come?
Its my safe zone
During awkward moments it calls me home
No its not my idol
I still read my Bible (on the app of course)
The first app I try to open every morning
But I’m still working on it
It's hard when your mind not steady on it
Its hard to delete social media
When people only choose to communicate on it
But I did make my algorithm mostly Christian content
Get a motivational word everytime I get on IG
I could go on and on about this phone
Don’t make being on a phone feel wrong
Yes at times the obsession feels strong
And I can get addicted to this phone
But it keeps my mind from going so far gone
Makes me feel like I’m always at home
Love this damn phone

Yes, the addiction to screens is one of the scariest ones because we think “how bad could it be? What will happen if I’ll be in my phone or watch tv 24/7?” But the damage is real…
I recently left my phone in a Lyft and didn't know what to do with myself until I got it back! Lol These phones can definitely be addicting! I better work on that a bit! Lol I loved the transparency of your poem Emily! Nice work!
This piece beautifully captures the complicated relationship many of us have with our phones.
Human brain loves knowledge and our smartphones quences all our quests. So, we like it.
