Give & Take IV: An Ultimatum

What I've been given, I cannot give back, and I cannot give away... -but, I can't take it myself.

what would i give,

for a moment of silence?

every last second‐

what would i give,

for a moment of peace?

the rest of my being‐

not that there's anything left...

what would i give,

to just give in?

nothing,

because there's nothing left, but‐

my last breath

but...

if i give up now,

and let my last breath be taken,

if i give away the light from my eyes,

that they may never again awaken

then every step prior to that one is therefore of no meaning‐

an ultimatum i have been given,

with which i suppose i have come to be "content"

out of compulsion

not by choice‐

what voice have i ever had?

other than the screams of my vices,

shouting to me to test the powers above my head‐

other than the screams from down under,

hateful breaths crowding the atmosphere around my bed‐

other than the screams reflecting from the mirror,

the ugliest of speech, telling me to paint the walls red‐

but instead,

the ink from my veins pours onto this page‐

along with the weight of the sighs in my breath

and all little that's left,

what hasn't been taken‐

all i'd give away

if it meant my last breath would go on with‐

About the Creator

Josh Morgan

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
