A short love letter to my best friends
I realize now
As I talk to my girlfriends about my failed relationship and falling out of love,
and they order me food without me knowing,
wipe the mascara off my cheeks
and braid my unkept hair,
write piecing me back to life into their calendars
and plan a whole summer of memories,
sweep the room for my heartbreaker before I enter it and defend even my most obscene statements,
buy the creams to heal my scars and wipe it over his work,
remind me that his leaving made room for the one who’s good enough to stay,
sacrifice their 11:11 wishes for me,
and want nothing for me but the most beautiful and best love,
that I’m absolutely
completely
irrevocably
folded in theirs.

Thinking about one of my all time favourite songs as I write this, Ribs by Lorde
“You’re the only friend I need, sharing beds like little kids. We’ll laugh until our ribs get tough, but that will never be enough.”
I found the love of my life in my best friends, and I’m forever grateful for them. I thank my lucky stars everyday that we lived at the same time, and I can’t wait to grow old with them. <3
