Rhymes Just Because

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Trying to find my breath

Yearning to find a way

Grasping at my chest

For words I could not say

Flat out on my back

Staring at the stars

Aware of what I lack

My rib cage, prison bars

A prisoner held within

Been locked, living without

A barricaded sin

Buried by my crushing doubts

This mask my last attempt

At being someone else

No more choices left

I have to be myself

A wandering weary warrior

With nothing left to lose

A play by play new story, or

Rhyming words meant to confuse

Either way I had you

Even if you scrolled on by

See, I never really get to choose

The message in the rhymes

So many great lines, but I got a huge grin from the last 4. Wonderful work, my friend.

There's gold in those last two lines!
