Ghost

manger l'air ensemble

By Timothy James LanePublished 5 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read

like many shadows

borne a in breath of war

we had been orphaned at the tether

the beginning

bodies of our children lay abandoned

their jet-black eyes

burnished and dissident

we were baptized in blood

honeyed in the cold

our land, once a cathedral of forest

razed

the conquests of skyline

unfolding thoughtlessly

towers of mirror rippled

like seawater in the wind

we were clutching at our faces

our spirits broken

it was then that we learned

to sing to each other

freezing rains

a luminous instrument

unscathed

as love became our sister

and death our brother

so fear became slowly our mother

in days of tension

we wrestled gods with feathers

thunder pealed

as the rain deciphered our hearts

we bowed our heads

breathed the air together

the wake of heaven lifting us across

still we found no peace

nothing had yet been written

and nothing confessed

surreal poetry
