Animated outlines
Always outshine the
Boring, blurred edges
Of our daily tale.
Wind through the tree
Spirits, heads rattling
Like rainsticks, is cool
To touch, and sweet too.
Taste the demon star Howl
Swallowed whole and
Know the warmth
Of love and magic growing.
Up in the sky,
Fly free with Chihiro
And Haku, remembering
A name is more than a sound.
Track the notes and
Trace the lines Joe
Drapes in the lightness
Of piano and horns and string.
Together, these live
In and make memories
That help answer
My question: “I am…”?
Exhausted, out of
Lines and shine, I
Find peace, here, in
Familiar colors that are kind.

Seconds ago, the sullen sun set on the two of us… my exuberant furry companion and me. A fresh breeze embraces us, delivering welcome relief from the day’s oppressive heat. His typical stumbling and staggering along — apace with a sloth — has turned into trip-trapping, high-stepping, almost skipping along.

Sam I've known you for a while now and love your short stories so dearly but this poetic side, you are a natural. Keep up the great work my friend. Your ending was great but then again so were all your other lines.
This poem has a great warmth and comfort through strong imagery of well known scenes and characters which have personally brought me joy. Your pacing is wonderful and the stylistic choices add to and never take me out of the narrative and images you build. Would love to read more from this author!
