Gentle Illumination

An evening question

Dearest Moon,

Oh bringer of night light,
Caller of natural illumination —

How I wish I were more like you:

Gentle, soft, guider of secrets.

I make my wishes on you.

Many a time I have looked to you

To tell me what to do.

I have gazed upon your silvery surface

And watched you turn colors of honey, citrus, and deeper shades.

You bring safety to the night with your brethren, the stars.

I’ve whispered some of my deepest qualms to you.

And yet, there is still no answer

To what I desire most.

So here I am, asking you once again:

Do they look at the same sky as me?

Or is that a myth?

Please tell me —

Oh gentle force.

Yours,

Wanderer of Restless Nights
