Gauntlet of the Heart
A Dark Fairytale Love Poem (Abridged)
By Joshua HillaryPublished 11 months ago • 1 min read

The faceless man demanded
my "devil-heart" as payment
and I’d cut him morsels.
He returned every day for years
until I covered my heart in plate-mail .
Our armor stripped like a molt—
My devil-heart pulsing against her bosom.
Her eyes shed tears of ecstasy:
my holy water.
