Gaslight

Gone Wildfire

I burn candles all day and all night.

I can see better without the light,

so I keep them lit to dim my sight;

hellbent memories are scorched bright white,

and in the fire I love the lie.

Smokescreens billow towards the sky

so I can’t see you; I too am blind--

what is missing here after all this time?

I mourn and curse you, light of my life

because your love was never mine.

Can I be your sunshine, your sunshine

creeping and revealing every side?

Can I be your sunshine, sunshine

beaming through the canopy, alive?

Will you ever love me in this life?

I invoke the Sun, all day, all night,

so I can’t see you; I too am blind--

what is missing here after all this time?

I mourn and curse you, light of my life

because your love was never mine.
