Futures Past

The never ending circle

By John DenneyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
World War 1

To look into the future

we must first look at the past

we must study what has happened

or else the die be cast

For a circle is never ending

the universe is vast

so to look into the future we must

first look to the past

The battles of the Trojans, the Spartans and the Boers

and to all the wars thereafter

and all those gone before

to all the wars between them

to all the wars to come

Remember all those soldiers

who were blown to kingdom come

In a vision of the future I see a world as one

with a queen ant and her workers doing all that must be done

they will demonstrate and protest

so loud they must be heard while those elites in high chairs

laugh and mumble how absurd

You know it can be different

we can change it if we will

we can all live united, we can all have our fill

we can topple the dictators, destroy them in our wake

we can march for our ideals for a "future world" we make

The road it is not easy, the road is very long

but when we march out in the street all must hear our song

the master they will free us, release us from our chains

give us equal freedoms to stop the nagging pain

For a circle is never ending

our universe is vast

so to make a peaceful future

we must first look to our past

surreal poetry
