Funeral for a Father
For ''The Sonnet of Shadows'' Challenge
In that brilliant Caribbean light
we took his body to a wall
(a unique burial; all
for respect and faith made right).
My mother spoke to the priest
(the language, to my ear, was Latin;
words fell and touched me like satin).
My thoughts? My concerns? The least
I could do was stay quiet
in that darkening day.
What could I say?
Not a word came (I would not try it).
No light entered my heart.
I started in shadow, and made this art.

This is beautifully sad! I was drawn in by the title and didn't expect a setting of Caribbean splendor, even with that gorgeous cover photo. Duality resonates with great poetry like this. ⚡💙 Bill⚡
Such a beautiful tribute. Well done, Kendall.
Beautiful tribute
Bless those shadows that we all must face. Tributes to the memory of all.
That was so poignantly beautiful. Loved your poem!
Such a beautiful piece, Kendall
