Fundamentally False

An Introspection on the lack of Self

I am fundamentally fictional ---

a legend passed down day to day.

Hero to none, villain to many,

afterthought to most.

The name I bear holds no talent

in aiding the deciphering of Me.

She is but a mere eight letters,

and I far less.

I am an insignificant speck

of the insignificant people

on an insignificant land

under an insignificant sky.

I spin tales to entertain

in the hopes that whatever remains

of anything human in these bones,

any grain of a spark,

is held dear by hands other than my own.

    This is me!

  • This quietly shattered me. There’s so much truth and ache in so few lines. It’s haunting, raw, and beautifully written—like a whisper from someone trying to remember who they are. Thank you for sharing this piece of your soul.

  • Wow, I love it... English is not my native language but sometimes I write poems too so I can feel it deeply.
