Fruit Picking from Backyard

Nostalgia of growing years

By Seema PatelPublished 8 months ago 1 min read

That was my growing-up years—

backyard with ample fruit trees.

laden with guava, orange, mango,

papaya, java plum, rose apple,

pomegranate, lemon, lychee.

Day or night, whenever felt like,

I headed to that grove,

picked the fruit of my choice,

and enjoyed its pulp and juice.

What a lovely experience it used to be,

one of the best gift for children.

Then we left for higher education

and married to live far away.

The trees grew old too,

succumbed to diseases and death.

Only nostalgia remains—

bringing joy, and sometimes, pain.

Note: That's me, picking ripe oranges, in winter.

My aunt had an apple orchard along with cherry trees and raspberry bushes and we were allowed to eat as much as we wanted just so we didn't get sick on them. We would have to clean up our own mess if you know what I mean. Good job.
