From the Island
A letter from one of my fantasy characters is being sent "home."
Dear humans,
I am delighted to write this letter back to the human portion of the world, the place I used to call "home." I hope it gets to you as planned, as I am beyond pleased to tell you what I have seen since I decided to start my new life in the sky.
But before I get to my little story, I guess I better fill you in on what exactly happened.
Not many people were there on my journey, and I felt like I was alone for as long as I can remember. I'm much happier here if I'm being honest.
One night, I was upset over something.
I can't remember what, exactly. I just remember feeling upset.
I went outside to calm down, and there was a navy blue glow in the woods. A little bottle of magic was glowing on the ground that invited me to drink it.
I know. It's weird, it's absurd, and you definitely don't believe me.
I may have been tired, but I know what I saw.
But at the time, I didn't know what it was. I felt like I was dreaming. I figured that the worst-case scenario would be illness. It didn't sway me much, though, because I felt like things couldn't really get worse in my life, you know? It didn't seem to matter either way.
So, I acted out of impulse. I drank the mysterious blue glow. But I didn't feel injured or sick. I felt happy.
My body changed in ways I can't quite describe. My skin has this glow to it now, and I have the power to do whatever I please.
The next morning, I saw it outside my window. An island floating hundreds of miles above the ground. Questions flooded my mind, and I wondered if I ever woke up.
As I pondered how to get to the little glow in the sky, my body left the ground. Wings appeared on my back and carried me to my new home.
I think there's a magic system, but I'm working on figuring it out. I think I may need a book to collect all the notes on what this power can and cannot do. And a separate book for when the island starts to populate.
So, yeah. Here I am. You're welcome to join me here if you're interested. Just send me a letter, and I'll let you know how to get here. I hope you'll tell the others who are still in the city.
There's so much to do, but it's nothing like my old home.
The city made things move so quickly. Zooming cars, rushing crowds, busy streets. It just isn't like that here. I move at my own pace, I make my own rules, and I think I'm going to rule this island as a queen. Now, I can just form a palace at will. That was never possible when I was human.
I'm just so happy to feel free, and I can't wait for what comes next. I really hope you'll consider joining me. You and anyone you'd like to bring are welcome to the island.
I hope to see you around sometime, friend!
Sincerely,
Angel
