From Shadows to Light

A Story of Healing from a Toxic Love

By HillaryPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

She ended up meeting him while still young, in a very innocent way, with hearts in her eyes,

A light so bright, a perfect disguise.

He whispered sweet words soft and low,

Promised forever; she didn't know.

At first, it felt exactly like dream,

But there were cracks soon underneath that gleam.

His words turned sharp, his love a chain,

A joy streaked by, then came sudden pain.

Lost in his arms, with that strange face,

She hid her light to keep him near,

Silenced her voice, swallowed her fear.

But one by one, the tears ran dry;

She found herself learning little.

Not for him-but herself,

A love that burned into me is now kept on the shelf.

Thus she stood tall; she walked away,

The girl who left was different, as it were.

Love should not learn to be, in truth, a cage, camouflaged as destiny.

Now piles of whole healed free,

Memory indeed chains her no longer.

From deep shadow to light of morn,

She found her way, she won the fight.

Nice work. Question what was the trigger to write this article? Great work by the way…
