From Blue to Pink

By Shekinah Sanders (Yunik)

By Shekinah Sanders Published 5 years ago 1 min read

Here's an account of a little boy

Who's female company he did enjoy

And the occasional little girl's toy

But had to learn quickly how to be coy

It did not take him long to know

That he was a part of the great rainbow

But it took him 30 years to think

Of changing colors from blue to pink

Colors define the world today

Representing straight and gay

Representing power and place

Representing the public face

Blue is cold

Hot is red

Alive is green

Brown is dead

I am unique, it's the name I chose

I'm prickly but sweet just like the rose

Which is also a color, though many it has

I was born in November; my stone, topaz

My favorite color changes much

I don't care for conforming much

I like what I like and I feel what I feel

Sometimes its chartreuse, sometimes its teal

My name's Yunik and I'm proud to say

That I'm very weird and a little gay

I adore all colors the whole world round

This pen is my voice, this poem my sound

I don't have much but every day I'm blessed

And I will keep wearing my favorite pink dress

I'll keep making music until I'm adored

And my creations are revered by the ones who came 'fore

Now I am pink but I started off blue

This is a testament of what life can do

To a person who walked through a world full of hate

Until they got tired of being called straight
