From Apocalypse to Zombie
A villainous villanelle-esque poem
When the world is burning down, I must concede
perhaps apocalypse films were sorta right—
true friends are great to help you fight zombies.
* * *
If you don’t have escape plans, shame on you
because something’ll see you and want a bite
when the world is burning down. I must concede
* * *
I never had a plan at first—a true
mistake before watching Walking Dead at night.
True friends are great to help you fight zombies
* * *
is the first lesson you learn through and through
during a global emergency. Fight
when the world is burning down, I must concede
* * *
that truth. Giving up isn’t a plan you
can live through now, and even the mere sight
of friends are great to help you fight zombies
* * *
in the end. And if you have no friends to
help, make some fast to survive. It’s only right
when the world is burning down, then I concede
true friends are great to help you fight zombies.
