Frivolous questions with even dumber answers

ATHF poem, Shake’s perspective. How anomalous situations like sitting with someone in the dark can cause people to stand up to do rare, daring things, like be silly and maybe pay bills.

By Melissa IngoldsbyPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

hold up, can’t pay for your bill

Or the other paradigm shift:

“We can make it just fine with this little amount of money.”

And how we relate to each other,

And we goof on each other.

You make the food,

I eat it.

The food tin is running dry, the anomalous nature of our sins are running high.

The shift of your heart is carving a dent in my paranoia.

I sink into the blood bath of my own making, you hurt me, Bury me with all my

Stuff

Because you can’t come with me.

I want to ask you so much but I know what will come out is

Silly answers, because it’s me

You can’t take me

Seriously

And that’s my fault.

We can still have each other in the dark and not be billed for it, right?, the totalitarian, kafkaesque way society oppresses me and you and us and

The way I don’t want to pay bills and still have electricity and TV and nice things,

The way I push you all around like I don’t have a big check to cash to the “Man” that I won’t be able to pay isn’t a reminder of your (my)abusive father or the self-righteousness of church or the way socks don’t ever match or how I don’t like how sweaty my feet feel in them or how

You can’t just leave us, or won’t

Leave me

Why don’t you just go?

Go

And leave

And hold me

And I’ll punch your stupid nerd mouth

I’m sorry

I’ll pay the bill, because, well,

It’s not because I like you, or because of anything stupid like that

You keep reading your Vogue in the dark, and I’ll turn on the lights—-

I just need to go find some money first.
