The blood
of the rebel
and the blood
of the soldier
*
both
rush through
my veins
*
My great-grandfather
Mayor of Uekermünde
led a rebellion
against Nazi Germany
and was thrown
in a concentration camp
His country
ravaged by war
His friends and family
oppressed to die and starve
even if they fit
the 'Aryan' type
*
My great-uncle
A southern aristocrat
secretly used his wealth
to free African slaves
Opened the first
school in the South
for black students
to free their minds as well
He was considered
a traitor to our country
and shame to all white men
in the south
*
My grandfather
Lieutenant Colonel
killed numerous
innocent civilians
in WWII
and was awarded
medals of honor
for his patriotism
*
My cousin
Lieutenant Colonel
killed Iraqian families
called it
collateral damage
and was awarded
a position at the
White House
in secret service
*
I had a choice
*
To be indoctrinated
into earning honor
by becoming
a cog in the machine
of oppression
To be praised
for my 'good deeds'
and loyalty
to a broken system
*
Or
*
To become an outcast
A freedom fighting criminal
that is despised for
their retaliation
against injustice
Who is demonized
for dismantling
the structures of
the unseen prison
that keeps us barred
*
in the invisible war
that is waged
everyday on our bodies
and on our minds
*
After spending
my youth
breaking free
from the prison
within my home
the prison created
inside my mind
the prison bound
around my soul
the choice was
transpicuous
*
I would rather be hated
for revealing the ugly truth
rather than be loved
for upholding a lovely illusion
*
I would rather die
fighting for truth
rather than live
defending a lie
*
I choose to be
crowned a criminal
If it means fighting
to free all those
who are chained
by the mass manipulation
by the devil's cunning game
*
It's always the ones
who are fighting for freedom
who are made out to be the enemy
*
Because the freedom fighters
are fearless to face
the ugly truth
beyond
the lovely illusion
that the disguised devil
has created
*
The evil ones
will have you fooled
with a smile spread wide
Trading true freedom
for shining medals of honor
outstanding accolades
and great benefits
*
Believing there's nothing
better than what they gave you
That your chains
are more comfortable
than dancing in the rain
*
Tricked into thinking
that the ones
trying to unlock your chains
are your worst enemy
That the freedom fighters
are untrustworthy and crazy
*
If you don't believe me
brush up on your history
and you'll see that slavery
has only transformed
to be translucent
Yet the wheel is still turning
building momentum
upon ignorance
*
Beyond the army's ranks
oppression breathes deeply
in our homes, jobs, and education
*
And
if someone praises you
for your 'good deeds'
question
why and
who it is you're serving
