Freedom Ain't a Whisper
Performance Poem
I'm gonna tell my story
I'm gonna spread the news
Cause nobody can tell it
like I understood
Freedom wasn't a whisper
It wasn't a sound but a name
a mighty and wondrous name
I wanna scream and shout
I wanna yell it again
Again I say I gotta hear it again
That sweet name that freed me
I'm gonna tell my story
I'm gonna spread the news
Cause nobody can tell it
like I understood
Freedom wasn't a whisper
It wasn't a sound but a name
a mighty and wondrous name
Some say child you're fooling
Some say child you're missing
But I know what I've been through
And I know what I heard
the sound of greatness and the sound of joy
I'm gonna tell my story
I'm gonna spread the news
Cause nobody can tell it
like I understood
Freedom wasn't a whisper
It wasn't a sound but a name
a mighty and wondrous name
People can come and people can go
Seas may rise and land may fall
Searching and searching but never finding
All I know is Heaven is near cause I drink
from its well and it felt like life should be
I'm gonna tell my story, to the world
I'm gonna spread the news, all over yonder
Cause nobody can tell it, not nobody
like I understood, unless you've been through what I've been through
Freedom wasn't a whisper, nope
It wasn't a sound but a name, no
a mighty and wondrous name
