Fragments of Innocence

A poem about childhood trauma

By Joseph ThelingoanePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Innocent eyes once bright and clear,

Now haunted by memories so dear.

A childhood once filled with hope and joy,

Now shattered and marred by pain and ploy.

The laughter and games that once filled the air,

Now replaced by silence and despair.

The innocence lost, the trust betrayed,

A child's heart forever scarred and frayed.

The darkness that lingers like a heavy cloud,

The memories that scream out loud.

The fear that grips, the nightmares that haunt,

A childhood trauma that forever taunts.

The brokenness that cannot be undone,

The wounds that never fully heal or run.

The pain that lingers, the hurt that stays,

A childhood trauma that never fades away.

The innocence lost, the childhood taken,

The scars that remain forever unshaken.

The hope that once burned bright and strong,

Now replaced by a sad and lonely song.

Fragments of innocence scattered about,

A childhood trauma that leaves no doubt.

The lasting impact that it can have,

A wound that never fully heals or salve.

So let us hold our children close and dear,

Protect them from the pain and fear.

For childhood trauma leaves a lasting mark,

A wound that forever leaves a stark.

Let us heal the brokenness that remains,

And ease the burden of all the pains.

For childhood trauma need not define,

The rest of one's life or design.
