Fog clung to his clothes
As he followed the twisted path
*
Fragments of stones scattered
Broken and long forgotten
*
His breath ragged
As he ascended to the gate
*
Rusted and twisted iron
Barred his journey
*
He wrestled with the latch
Fear welcomed him
*
With the creaking gate
Echoing into the shadows
*
His body lurched forward
Answering the sirens call
*
His thoughts drowned
With his pounding heart
*
Hands clammy
He reached the stairs
*
Uncertainty settled in his bones
Every instinct said to run
*
Step by step he forced himself forward
As death’s breath called him name
*
Before knocked upon the door
It swung open by a ghostly presence
*
His mind blanked
Fear paralyzed his thoughts
*
In the darkness
He watched the red eyes disappear
*
The beast’s foul breath washed over him
Bringing him to his knees
*
The creature growled
As it circled him
*
His heart stopped beating
One second, two
*
He clasped his hands over his throat
and begged for his life
*
“Please don’t kill me!
Not tonight!”
*
A sweet voice rang out
Her words hanging in the thick air
*
“Darling, my love,
Did you forget our anniversary, again!”
