Four Weeks
A Poetic Free Verse Entry to the Keep It 100 Challenge

It’s been four weeks –
Today marks your passage.
Still, I remember
Walking in,
And knowing it was over.
Even before I saw your slumped form,
I knew,
And when I called for help,
I knew no help could come,
For you were gone.
Still, I went through the motions,
Stayed on the line,
Counted along with the operator
With each compression (1 – 2 – 3 – 4),
But to what end?
You were already gone,
Gone before I even arrived.
It’s been four weeks,
But even later,
Even when it’s been
10, 20, 100, 10,000 –
Even then, I will remember you.

Not just heartbreaking but also describing something very difficult. Knowing there is no hope but having to go through all of the motions while that grief is waiting there for the moment it pauses.
Heartbreaking - beautifully written.
This is so sad. Your poem is beautiful
Oh, Laura! This is so heartbreaking and beautifully written. You've captured such a painful experience and the grief of loss so profoundly. Thank you for sharing such a raw emotional piece.
This is beautiful. I had something similar in mind when I saw DK's challenge. I'm sorry for your loss🙏
