Four Horseman

A Poem

By Daniel J. GuercioPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Arturo Souto, 1937)

The world never stops turning

Starbucks lines stay filled

The roads are not abandoned

Groceries come with sanitized screens

Or a package left at your door

Liquor consumed by the gallons

Cigarettes available at will

Gas is guzzled

Family stops by

Shouting from their car

Greetings are exchanged by strangers

In parks

On bike paths

In essential stores and streets

Humanitarian hospitality escapes death

Connection grows through separation

Water keeps pumping

Rivers are dammed

The lights stay on

Famine kills millions

The wars keep raging

No quarantine for the bullets

Pestilence is surging

Death is at your door

And the world keeps turning
