fossils

(of time)

By Sara Published about a year ago 1 min read

you are written

on the vertebrae of my spine

where it curves

and breaks.

your words are teeth

buried in the sand:

digging into

the soles of my feet.

you are an exoskeleton

in the caverns

of my mind:

even the earth spits you out.

our relationship is a carcass

that resists degradation,

time has formed a fossil

that will linger

in the beds we lay

legs entangled,

the sheets we wet

with burning desperation,

in the walls we leaned

as we breathed each other’s air.

i find our remains everywhere.

(why i cannot escape you).

The pain and desperation in this is palpable. Wonderful job creating such a thick atmosphere!

Wow, that last line. Heartbreaking and incredibly written, well done :)

  • I quickly fell into this destructive passion; really powerful.

  • There is always something there, we cannot forget the bad things, but we can remember the good
