gates are half-open

afraid it will close

why? keep on praying with those trembling legs

forge ahead, dear child

don’t ever let the thought of leaving things behind chain you

Don’t, you are not. Carry, carry — a heart is capable like hands do

step need be — then bet on it as you throw away pennies

a season to pluck out weeds — take them! Keep them!

for they too shall bloom

remember to spare,

even rainbows land on dumpsites.

act — step! take a step. Think, don’t think

fear not accusations, know — who do, they are.

gates are half-open, they are not close

a life to live, a heart to spare, everything to let go

gamble, dear child,

bet on the open.
