Forgotten Birthday

Forgotten Birthday

Today is my birthday, yet no one remembers,

No candles, no wishes, just cold, quiet embers.

The silence surrounds me, a whisper of air,

No laughter or music, just stillness to bear.

I waited with hope as the morning grew bright,

Expecting a message or call by the night.

But the hours slipped by like shadows that fade,

And my name wasn't spoken, no plans were made.

I thought of the years when my heart would delight,

With balloons, cake, and friends in the soft candlelight.

Now I sit in the darkness, the quiet my guest,

With memories lingering, my heart feeling pressed.

I wish for a sign, a spark of surprise,

A moment to cherish, a light in my eyes.

Yet here I am sitting, alone in my room,

While outside my window, the flowers still bloom.

Though no one remembered, I whisper a prayer,

For moments of joy and for people who care.

Today is my birthday, though I celebrate small,

I promise myself to stand strong through it all.

For life is a journey with twists and with bends,

And I’ll cherish myself, as I cherish my friends.

Though birthdays are fleeting, my spirit will stay,

Hopeful and bright for a much better day.
