For Those Who Fell Before the Flag Was Raised
God bless America from across the pound

For Those Who Fell Before the Flag Was Raised
Not for glory not for gold
but for something soft and loud at once
a quiet wish carried in calloused hands
a land that could speak its own name
They were not giants just men
farmers smiths teachers sons
feet worn raw from marching dreams
minds set like flint in the rain
They stood when it cost them everything
when breath came heavy
and blood meant nothing but freedom’s fee
they stood anyway
No medal hung for them then
no trumpet cried their names
only wind through trees
and soil remembering
We walk on ground they broke open
with bones with sweat with belief
and say the word independence
because they dared whisper it first
So light a candle where you are
leave a chair at the table
they still sit among us
the ones who never came home
Bless the ones who made it possible
to lift a flag and call it ours
who gave their all for what we hold
this day this right these open hours

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️
