For Phil, on our 35th Anniversary
Thirty-five years, and here you are
the man who knew my heart from start
who stood beside me, strong and proud
through quiet days and storms aloud
We laughed at things that made no sense
we made the hard times feel less dense
you held my hand when nights were long
and every silence turned to song
No roses wrapped in fancy string
could match the joy your love can bring
no grand parade, no diamond bright
just you and me, and that feels right
You saw the woman underneath
not just the smile or curled-up wreath
you loved me fierce, you loved me true
and I still feel brand new with you
So here’s to us, through all we’ve done
the years, the fights, the fun, the run
I’d choose you still, through all again
my partner, heart, my closest friend
Not every tale needs stars above
just one good man, one real love
and mine is you, through all of this
my once, my now, my only wish
