For More Than Just One Day

Reflective, inspirational poem inspired by David Bowie

By Paul StewartPublished about a year ago 1 min read

David—dôwd—beloved, when can I be a hero—hērōs?

Is Tuesday—Tīw's Day, next week fine? Tuesday—Tīw's Day week—shorthand

David—beloved, when can I be a hērōs—hero?

Which weekday is just mine? born on Monday—mōnandæg—fair of face was I

Do I need a cape or cowl? cucullam promunturium

Secret identity necessary? pseudoname absconditum

Do I need powers or weapons? genius level intel-lect

Who will be my adversary? enemy, arcus or minor hostis?

David—dôwd—beloved, when can we be hero—hērōs

Can we be hero—hērōs—protector, for more

than just one day—dies

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: Completely forgot to include this when I originally published the poem. It is meant, at best, tongue in cheek, as I realise the original meaning behind David Bowie's song was very profound. But, it also got me to thinking about everyday heroes. It was also just a good excuse to mess around with language a little.

He was a mercurial, polymorphous poetic genius, my liege--do we not all yearn to swim like dolphins can swim?
