For Her

by Mel

By 'Lissa StufflestreetPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

we were meant to be

we made a promise

we weren't supposed to be like our parents

that was supposed to be a guarantee

we never wanted to put our

daughter

through the pain we've been through

we were soulmates

forever made for each other

you and I

us

meant to be

forever

at one point

we felt like the only two in the room

at one point

you were the one person to always keep me smiling

at one point

we were everything for our daughters sake

how was I supposed to know

that would all come to an end

pretty soon

soon enough

the screaming started

the arguments got louder

hands would get involved

our daughter pushed herself

so far back into the corner

we never even remembered she'd be in

the same room

you and I

we were supposed to be

meant to be

soulmates

we made a promise

to never turn out like our parents

for her

for our daughter

she was supposed to believe in love

she was supposed to see us

as her role models

she was supposed to look through our pictures

and smile because

her parents were so meant to be

they were the soulmates she was honored

to watch

we made a promise

for her

but promises are made

to be broken

we weren't meant to be

we weren't soulmates

it was simply just an

illusion

we were just running

'round and 'round

lost in the maze of love

screaming

but no one could hear

we ended up like our parents

we weren't so meant to be

eventually

we ran out of air

eventually

we found the end of that maze

for her
