For Doves and Ships

These days,

it takes only seconds

to tell someone

that you love them.

Before, people had to endure

the waiting

of a letter

by dove or by sea

to arrive

wondering

what words were written for them

words of love

words of rejection

How did they live with that long ache?

Although, as I'm sitting here now

I realize

I too am waiting

for any words from you.

It is hard.

But for love

But for you

I would wait for doves and ships.
