Footsteps in the Night
A Short Poem of Fiction and Suspense, Where the Shadows Hold Their Secrets

Silent footsteps in the night,
A shadow moving out of sight,
An eerie feeling in the air,
As though danger's lurking there.
A sudden rustle in the trees,
The sound of whispers on the breeze,
A chill runs down my spine,
As I realize, I'm not alone this time.
I pick up my pace and quicken my stride,
Hoping to outrun whatever's lurking outside,
But the footsteps follow, steady and strong,
As though they've known this path all along.
I turn a corner, and there it stands,
A figure shrouded in shadows and strands,
My heart races as I meet its gaze,
Wondering if I'll live to see another day.
But then it speaks, in a voice so clear,
And suddenly, there's nothing to fear,
For the stranger offers a hand of aid,
And leads me out of the darkness, unafraid.
