I don’t know if you know this
But everyone has a flame in their eyes
It dances the same as a candle’s
Bright and dim and always flickering
For the wick inside us each differs
By person and by day
Stare into someone’s flame
And I’m sure you’ll say the same
All this to tell you now
I can feel mine flickering out
As I fight back the wind which came
And dwindled the brightness of my flame
There are moments I feel the embers
The pulsing proof of my strength
Dimmed by pain so low
it’s hard to tell if its still alight
Then I hear a kind word or funny joke
And the light returns to my surprise
It’s then I realize the fire hasn’t danced it’s last
No matter what it seemed
But still I spend more days in dim flicker
Wondering if
Than I do shining brightly
Not wondering at all
