Flicker Flame

Like a Prayer

By Maria AyalaPublished 7 years ago 1 min read

Like a Prayer

Flicker, flicker flame.

The point where the air meets my prayer.

I am here. Guide me once again.

Flicker, flicker flame.

The clock strikes four.

Flicker, flicker flame, the wings of an angel

I adore.

Flicker, flicker, flame.

The feathers of heavenly brilliance no one can live without.

Flicker, flicker flame,

They hold power and magnificence.

Touch my fingertips.

Flicker, flicker flame, in a state of grace I will remain.

Flicker, flicker flame, for all of my days.

My eyes, they adore you.

The shining light, so powerful,

It filled the entire church.

You didn’t really burn your wings, did you?

You just wanted to fool your brother.

You want to convince yourself that you don’t want a way out.

But the flames that you escaped,

They will keep chasing you, until

Your candle burns out—and just like that,

Just like a prayer,

Your soul will go back to hell.

The only way out for you would be to make the ultimate

Sacrifice: If you save someone’s life.
