If our thoughts work the way I think they work then…
I hope they float and flutter away
Like bubbles with butterflies,
Onto someone’s head
Or meet Someone else’s eyes
Here they are nothing but soot sprites–
Dust bunnies collecting more dust
And for what? Let go, love anew
Brighter light bulbs are headed
Towards you, for you, and you alone.
A newspaper in the wind
Or a leaf carefully crestfallen,
Nestled on the shoulder
Of this autumn coat.
Leaves will come,
Let them fall,
–Leave them–
Let them drop.
Have them be the sound of your walk
Let the foliage float and flutter away
Like those butterflies and bubbles
On this very spring day
Where everything grows
But won't stay that way
So let them float and flutter
Today
This spring day,
In the coming fall,
Let thoughts work the way they work
Don’t be plastic wrapped by them all
Or your head and your eyes‘ll be wound;
A fly in a spider’s thoroughly threaded web.
A fly in your very own web.
Don’t be the spider, the fly, and the web
All at the very same time
You’ll be bound to fall
Down that thoughtless wishing well
Where your thoughts first called.
