Flames

in the hands of ragers

By William AlfredPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it. —Edith Sitwell

_________________________________________________

All of us are stupid in certain ways,

seeing from a center off-center.

Since we are not the axis of the world,

our lines of sight are all askew and bent.

There may be a corrective for this fault

but we can't find it using faulty sight.

The luck of sages was that it found them,

aligned them with the universal heart.

Decent people sympathize, forgive

blameless stupidity, but they rush like lions

to attack those who shoot their ignorance

from flame-throwers of pure, fiery rage.

We have to stop them, not just for us, but for those

whose blameless stupidity leaves them wide exposed.
