Goldless Goldfish

Within a dusty corner brimming with cobwebs and gray bellied mice

Resides a chamber of crystal, small, cracked, and shaped like a dome

There was a feeble creature kept inside, devoid of pigment and pale as ice

Though dark and unkempt, this lonely fishbowl was the place called “home”

Once vibrant youth beaming with brilliant hues of amber and gold

Now condemned to the melancholy palette of a sunless sky

Darkness had devoured her lively spirit, in a manner most cruel and cold

Sickly white and shrouded in sorrow, the creature could do nothing but cry

A goldless goldfish longing for light

Swallowed whole by the dismal shadows of hopelessness and fear

Yet through the violent winds and crashing waves, she chooses to fight

A single silver scale forms above her heart as she stubbornly waits for the storm to clear

Through the ashen clouds and indigo downpours

I remain resilient.
