First Steps

To the love of my life

By Colton MainesPublished 4 years ago β€’ Updated 4 years ago β€’ 1 min read

With your first breath, my heart did stop;

Your gaze renders me immobile.

Through sun light or a mirror now,

I know not what would blind me most.

A knife could cut deeper though dulled,

By senses which scorch this mind’s eye.

The burning image of red hair,

And a life I dreamt in green eyes.

I look behind to darker paths

And remember pain from those steps.

They would cage me in the shadows,

In place of those lights love would sow.

With one first step and yours in sync,

The fleeting stars aligned above.

No place or time, I’d dare to miss

A chance, to relive our first kiss.
