Fire Works

June felt like July

It lit the sky

Somehow June felt like July

People got better, the hurt got worse

Found some heart while striking nerves

We drank the water as we watched it burn

The loss of buildings and livelihood

It'll be for the best, they swear it would

They picked up their signs, held up their phones

A change is coming and it's coming home

We can't breathe the air, we've been smothered too long

Check the boxes, paint them black

Rights at birth, they'll take them back

Some want revolution

Some wanted television sets

You take what's yours and you get what you get

So much stolen, so much hurt

Waiting to see if the fire works

You've seen the shields, the guns, the tanks

Ask yourself who owns the banks

Who lit the match and who swayed the flames?

Who was damaged and who got paid?

We heard the silence

Turned into riot

Both sides of political game

This year was for vision

Two eyes saw two divisions

But neither could deny the pain

Some want revolution

Some wanted television sets

You take what's yours and you get what you get

So much stolen, so much hurt

Waiting to see if the fire works

It was never a safe place

The city was asleep

Now woke from a deep state

Won't you seek deeper than you see, k?

We blacked out when she missed out on court

It was half reported but half ignored

They walked on as some kept watch

Who's dropping billions from the top ?

Fistful of money and fistful of rage

Some want dollars, some want change

Some things are not what they seem

The chants, the opportunities, the news, the memes

Some want revolution

Some wanted television sets

You take what's yours and you get what you get

So much stolen, so much hurt

Waiting to see if the fire works

It lit the sky

It was June but felt like July
