Final Bow

A Snapshot into the Life of Legendary Judy Garland

By Sassy Lady Ava GPublished 6 years ago 2 min read
Judy Garland prepares to open at the Greek Theatre in 1957 - Photo L. A. Times

When you came into our lives you were but a tiny babe

Singing Jingle Bells upon the vaudeville stage

Your talent sent you soaring through lonely child hood days

And pretty soon MGM would control all of your ways

That voice that God had blessed you with made you quite the star we know

As the little girl from Kansas who wished to be over the rainbow

For years all we could see was a blossoming rising star

Little did we know , behind the scenes it was nothing like that by far

The "little girl from Kansas" was forced pills to make the scenes

They worked you long and hard but this was how it "had to be"

The years went by, you became- a star and through no fault of your own-still

It seems you couldn't face the day without the jump-start from a pill.

You're a mom, a star, a wife now battling your weight and self-image once more

The negative input they thrust upon you caused you to doubt yourself galore.

MGM didn't help when your self image they shattered

"You've got no neck, no waist and you're fat" leaving you like a rag doll tattered

The years went by, you accomplished so much the envy of many unbeknown to you

you hid behind those dark, hollow eyes but somehow you always shined through

One woman shows, The "Two a day", two hours of POW, then you're on your way

You sang over laryngitis, left us elated, you gave us blood, which left you depleted

The same woman who gave us a wondrous thrill

Who took our emotions thru pleasure and pain

Now has no energy to walk and must be wheeled to her plane.

You're married one last time, your body frail and thin

You struggle to go on, this last battle you will not win.

One night you cannot sleep, one too many pills you take

Your body finally gives in to this awful twist of fate

Now the Legend lives on in memories, movies and songs

I'd rather have you here I wish I could right the wrongs.

I love you and my prayer is that you had a chance

To speak to God before you slipped into your eternal trance.

If you spoke to Him I know you're resting now

In His arms for all eternity you take your final bow.
