The sky dances
With secrets absorbed
Swirling from day to day
Rising high
To collect in the stars
That shine down
On earth below,
Illuminating headstones
Casting shadows within gates
Once locked-
Alighting words to be read
By nightly visitor-
Dressed in black
From head to toe-
A vision thought to be nightmare-
Discussed 'round rising fires
And passed glasses.
The wind blows
Cascading whispering voices
Right to your ear,
Through window near,
If you’re careful
You may catch
The voice of a spirit in passing
A warning
Coming forth from grave,
To watch your step
And bite your tongue-
Released from the crypt
To guide you on this day-
Landing upon table
Where place is set-
A welcome home
Gazed upon eagerly
By living eyes
Awaiting a message
So easily overlooked
As the dead try to warn
It is the living that need be feared.
Happy Halloween!
