Fear

This poem is inspired by one of our most powerful yet easily malleable emotions. Fear.

We can sometimes get overwhelmed by the emotions that we feel, forgetting that they originated from us which means we have total control over them. However, we tend to give them the wheel and take a backseat.

This poem is inspired by one of our most powerful yet easily malleable emotions. Fear.

Fear

Fear is a liar.

He makes you see things that aren't really there.

He alters perceptions

using your mental mirrors as reflections

and refracts your insecurities

with filters

and false rejection.

He is an attention seeker.

A moment of your focus not being on him makes him eager

to feature

as the lead actor

in your motion picture

and twist your images and ideas

for as long as he can stick around your mind to make the plot thicken.

Fear is an imposter.

He poses as your emotions

and whispers hopeless notions

until your emotions devotion

to you

become askew

and they turn on each other and then on you

which leads to mixed messages

that maddens the masses

and fear relaxes

and takes centre stage.

Fear is the conductor

of the orchestra that is your mind

taking each negative emotion it can find

and puts it right at the front of the line

to lead the tune in time

with

the rhythm of your memories.

Filling in the gaps with false broken weaves

of a messed up mixed up made up

truth.

Fear is a trickster.

He doesn't want you to know that you are in control

of its soul

That's why with every breath he holds

on

because

once you know

that from within you he was born

you can take back your mind from

his hold and build four walls

chain his talons to the floor

mould his spine and more

to suit your mindscape.

Never forget that fear

is an idea

that we coin to convince ourselves of the truths we find hard to accept about our reality.

Change your perception.

Take back control.

And make fear your adversary.

After all

Love

is also a four letter word.
