he took my tiny hand

wrapped around his finger

you’ll do great things he would whisper

he taught me to shoot straight

with both my words and my weapons

he taught me to be strong

no matter what happens

stay honest is something he never needed to say

i saw it in him

every single day

work hard

even if it near kills you

storms pass

even if they near kill you

love your family

even if they near kill you, too

sometimes his eyes would be sad

but his words would ring true

if I can get through this

you can too

he comes to my table

whiskey in hand

he tells me I’m better

than any damn man
